Diesel Prices by State

Today’s average diesel price for all 50 states and DC, updated 10/20/26 from AAA — the national average is $6.32/gal, ranked cheapest first.

Diesel runs well above regular in most states: it’s taxed at a higher federal rate (24.4¢ vs 18.4¢ per gallon), many states add their own diesel surcharge, and diesel competes with heating oil and jet fuel for the same distillate refining capacity. That also means state-to-state gaps differ from the regular-gas map. Select a state below for its diesel trend and full grade breakdown.
